The House
Our home is located in Phoenix AZ and was build in the 1950's. The style
in Phoenix in the 50's is a single story block home on a poured concrete foundation.
The laundry room is located on one end of the home where the hose running
to the washing machine burst. Bedrooms are located at the other end of the
home.
The Flood
The best we can tell, the hot water hose connected to the back of the washing
machine burst around 7pm and ran for about 12 hours until the neighbor came
over to check on the pets about 7am the next morning. Yes, I know and have
been told a dozen times to shut off your water before going away.. The house
has a main bearing wall that runs the length of the home and the water following
this wall and then moved out to flood the bedrooms, closets,
kitchen, living room etc.. Interestingly, the water flowed right past two
exterior doors that were less than 4 feet away from the burst pipe. I'd always
thought, if there is a break in any of those pipes, the water would go right
out those doors (boy was I wrong).
